About / Commissions

I’m Nicole Knight, an artist based in the Northeast. I work primarily with soft pastels and charcoal but have been known to dabble in other mediums. My work is inspired by the beauty of my everyday life, as well as my exciting outdoor adventures and travels. If I can capture just a fraction of what I see and feel all around me to share with you, I have succeeded!

When I’m not painting, you can usually find me gardening, backpacking, rock climbing, or playing the harp.
Life is what you make it, so make it a beautiful one! I hope your visit today will spark a flow of positivity in your direction.

About / Commissions

It is a meaningful experience to commission a piece of custom artwork. Perhaps you have a nostalgic place in mind or a location that creates peace and calm when it enters your thoughts. As an artist, it is inspiring to work with an art collector to create a one-of-a-kind heirloom piece that represents something special.

My focus is on impressionist natural landscapes, birds, and plants. I paint with soft pastels and draw with charcoal. If an architectural element is present, it is considered a secondary supporter in the composition. If you haven’t yet, please browse the portfolio page on my site. Limiting my commission subjects allows me to remain authentic to where my energy lies in my studio practice. This ensures that the work brought into your space was created with love, excitement, and passion.  Art has a powerful energy, after all!

Commission Experience

I work from photos supplied by the client. During our initial commission consultation, in which you provide reference photos, we will discuss what you are looking for and how to best represent the subject in my artistic style. I never copy a reference photo exactly. I like to make changes based on what will suit the composition best. I aim to apply my artistic vision to capture the essence of your image.  After our conversation, I will create a private listing for your art commission to purchase through Etsy that I will send directly to you. Etsy is an easy and safe way to handle transactions and shipping.

Once the commission is purchased, I will begin the painting/drawing process.

I will first create a general sketch or a small study painting to make sure that you love the direction we’re headed. This is the stage where I will allow changes to the composition.

Next, referencing the study painting, I will paint the final piece.

When the painting is completed, I will send a digital image for you to look over.

After you have approved the work, I will ship your artwork, signed, unframed, and safely packaged along with a certificate of authenticity.

About / Commissions

“Nicole was so wonderful to work with on my commission piece. She was extremely communicative and very thorough. The recipient of the artwork absolutely loved it, as did I. Nicole is extremely talented and I can’t wait to order another commission piece in the future!”

Artwork Sizes

Sizes include the border. Unless no border is requested, all artwork will have a .2-inch border to make handling and framing easier. The frame or mat usually covers this border. Depending on the inventory, all soft pastel paintings will be created on Clairefontaine Pastelmat or Canson Mi-Teintes Velvet, which are interchangeable pastel supports. The color of the pastel support will vary based on the subject. Charcoal drawings will be completed on acid-free drawing paper.
